The Ohinemuri flows between Waihi and Paeroa through the Karangahake Gorge. Only runnable after plenty of rain this river offers something for everyone from easy grade I&II water near the start through to grade III in moderate flood or grade IV+ in big flood. The rapids are easy to scout/portage using the walking track on river left.

There are a few places to put in along the gorge. For an easy access, drive 2.3km past Campbell Rd if coming from Waihi or 500m past the Waikino Train Station if coming from Paeroa. Park in the area beside the bridge. You can access the stream under the bridge.

You need to be aware of Big Bertha, a huge hole on river left about 4-6 metres wide.

The take out is the bridge at the Karangahake reserve.
