Grade: II - II+

The Waiari Stream flows in a deep ravine outside Te Puke.  Access on and off this pristine stream is via private property and needs to be arranged in advance with the land owners.  The rapids are challenging enough for most novice paddlers but its the pristine water and untouched gorge that has seasoned paddlers returning to this section of water again and again.

The waterfall near the end of the run signals the last of the main rapids.  Less experienced paddlers should portage on the left and may need some assistance to get out of their boat.  For the keeners you might like to run it but make sure you scout it properly first.  Its not the cleanest of drops and there's definite potential onto a rock
